Stephen Halpern, MD

Dr. Stephen W Halpern is a cardiologist in Santa Rosa, California, affiliated with Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He received his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine and did his cardiology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, after which he served on the full-time staff as Assistant Professor of Medicine before relocating to Santa Rosa to start a private practice in 1981. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of cardiovascular disease, is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and was Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and Family Practice at UCSF before relinquishing his teaching obligations.
Dr. Halpern has been participating in clinical research trials since 1992 and has served as local principal investigator on many seminal trials conducted both in the outpatient setting and at Providence Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital (where the first patient worldwide was randomized in the AVERT trial with atorvastatin). The hospital also was featured on the CBS San Francisco affiliate station for a clinical trial investigating an implanted medical device to detect the onset of potential heart attacks prior to the onset of symptoms. Many of the patients for these and other trials have been affiliated with Providence.
